Each year, we ask for a donation of to support the instrumental music programs at Mission San Jose. These programs cost around $125,000 to operate each year! That is for all programs: concert bands, orchestra, marching band, and winter programs.
These donations are considered 'Class Donations' by FUSD. Therefore, all student registration donations will be deposited into the school ASB account.
Here is where that donation goes to:
Instructor Stipends: $30,000
Our instructors for marching band, color guard, percussion, and drum majors have extensive performance and teaching expertise. They are not paid for by the district and are independent contractors paid hourly from donations.
Bus Transportation: $40,000
We participate in 6 parades during the fall, and a few concert festivals during the spring. Each bus costs at least $1,500 depending upon the distance traveled and time to and from the event. We will take 4 buses to each event marching band event, 5 buses to Lincoln and 2-3 buses per festival event. On school day event, FUSD often requires us to use charter buses that at $2,500 per bus!
Equipment Truck Rentals: $8,000
We rent a 26-foot Penske truck to haul our equipment to all parades, competitions, concerts, winter competitions and festivals. Each truck rental is about $700 for the truck rental and gas.
New Sheet Music: $4,000
Instruments/Equipment: $6,000
Purchase of new instruments and sound equipment for all ensembles.
Entry Fees: $4,000
Entry fees for competitions, parades, winter season and festivals.
Instrument Repairs: $5,000
Uniform Supplies: $5,000
MakeMusic Subscriptions: $5,000
Formerly SmartMusic; music subscriptions for student practice and performance testing.
Concert Facility Rentals: $3,000
Ohlone college rental costs for the winter concert and MSJ attendance area concert.
Miscellaneous: $20,000
Including but not limited to: food, color guard equipment, facility rentals, non-instrument repairs, office supplies, copier, etc.
TOTAL: $128,000
Funding Sources: $15,000 total
School/District - $5,000 (for new music and instrument repairs)
MSJ Warrior Boosters - $10,000 (not PUPS)
